A few months ago I posted a pre-wedding shoot of Jessica and Cole at the Logan temple. A couple weeks after that, we shot the real thing. It was a great day, and they were so much fun to work with. They wanted the wedding day film to focus more on their family, and it was really special. Their reception in Logan was gorgeous. Jessica had some great ideas, and I really loved all of the little details. Hope you enjoy them!

So I thought it would be fun and helpful to do a bit more informational posts about wedding and event videography along with posting videos of my recent work.  For this post, I wanted to talk about the presentation of the wedding video at the reception (or dinner, luncheon, whatever).  From the many receptions I’ve been to, the most typical way to show the wedding video is to have it on a TV, playing in the corner of the room.  Sometimes it’s on a nice large TV.  Sometimes it’s on a laptop.  Sometimes it’s on two TVs in separate corners.  And this usually works well for the average Utah wedding reception, where there’s a line of people coming and going, and the guests can watch the video at their leisure.  The problem is, the wedding party–most importantly, the bride & groom  – doesn’t get to see much of the video because they are graciously greeting their well wishers. 

One really great idea that I try to promote to my clients is the Cinematic Presentation of the wedding video.  I will bring a nice projector, screen–usually at least 72″, and audio equipment (if needed).  Then at some point during the reception, everyone stops to watch the video together, including the bride and groom.  I think this is a great way to showcase the new couple and their awesome day together.  Plus it gives them a chance to stop and eat something while they’re watching it.

Most of us probably remember the “Big Red” jingle from the commercials, probably had it stuck in your head for a few days.  Well, at the reception for Chelsee and Jake a few months back, Jake’s long time friends (who would always call him Big Red, because of his red hair) decided to have a little fun with him.  Here’s a short video I put together of that. 

This was such a fun reception–it was held at a really cool place, the Paraiso Maravilla in Houston.  They had lots of fun dancing and crazy bride and groom games to see how compatible they are.  It was really funny.  Plus, they had a Utah Jazz cake alongside their traditional wedding cake, so that was awesome!  Go Jazz!  Anyways, it turned out great, and I hope you enjoy it!  You can also see their temple film here.

This was a really fun reception to be at–the bride and groom were having a great time, and there was some good karaoke music.  We filmed this at The Point at the Huntsman Cancer Institute.  You can also see Kylee’s bridal film here, their love story here and their temple film here.  Thanks Kylee and Jason for letting me be part of this awesome day!

I really enjoyed working with Karli and Paul, and it was great to see them start their life on such a happy note.  Their reception was at Red Butte Garden, and they had a great live jazz combo band provided by Musical Heart Strings.  It was a lot of fun to be there and to put it together for them.  You can also see their love story here, their temple film here, and their ring ceremony here.  I hope you enjoy it!

Kylea & Eric’s reception was a blast! Such a fun family, and an awesome location, the 23rd floor of the Wells Fargo Building looking over the lights of Salt Lake City. I tried a few new things on this edit, I hope you enjoy it.
