Think Giant.

First of all, let’s start off with the basics and clarify the difference between a love story film and a date film:

Love Story — The bride and groom being interviewed, telling their story of how they came to be together, along with them having fun doing an activity they enjoy. 

Date — Bride and Groom on a date, having fun.  Edited like a music video to a song of their choice.

So the big question is, which one is right for you?  Honestly, the best love stories that we have put together are for those who have an interesting story to tell, and can tell their story well.  Here’s a good example of one.

If you don’t like to talk in front of the camera or don’t have much more to say than “I just really love him and he’s so awesome!”, then you may want to go with the date option.  Some brides think they have to do a  love story because their older sister or mom did one.  I say do what’s best for you, and that will make a much better video!

Some couples just want to have fun and be relaxed and show their personality, and the Date film is a great way to do that.    Pick an activity that you both enjoy, or just have fun together, and pick a song that means something to the both of you, and we can turn it into an awesome date film.  Go to the Date Films page to see some good examples.

This will just be a short post to talk about the option of a pre-wedding film.  Many couples love the idea of a same day edit, and showing the temple portion of the wedding film at the reception that evening.  Sometimes, though, that’s not possible, usually due to time constraints if your ceremony time is later in the day.  A easy way to overcome this is to shoot a pre-wedding film– the bride and groom, in formal wedding attire, at the temple, or any other location really, but on a day prior to the wedding.  It can be a lot more fun and relaxed and you can go anywhere you want.  And then we have it edited and ready to present at the reception or dinner.  We did this for Whitney and Steve, who are getting married tomorrow.  I’ll be posting the video on Monday.

Filming Whitney & Steve’s love story gave Spencer and I the opportunity to visit Logan, Utah,  a place we haven’t been to since we were in college, which has been at least 10 years (holy crap we’re getting old).  First of all, it was so much fun to be there, and remember the college days and to see the Utah State campus again.  We really had a good time with Whitney and Steve too, just running around the Quad, or filming them riding tandem bikes (Spencer hung out of the trunk while I drove).  They are getting married on May 15 in the Salt Lake Temple, and I will be posting that next week, but in the meantime, I hope you enjoy their love story!

Early one morning, our good friend and former client Sarah Morrow called us.  Her cousin was getting married that day and the family had decided against videography.  Fortunately, they changed their minds, but now it seemed a bit too late to call on anyone the day of the wedding.  Sarah thought she might give Spencer a try to see if he was available.  He was… sort of.  He was also shooting a ceremony wedding at the Alta Lodge at 4, and so would have maybe a half hour to work with them.  So he did his best to rush out there in time.  Of course he stayed longer than he expected, he always does.  (luckily he made it to the other wedding on time too).  So here is Casey & Kevin’s almost-didn’t-happen-but-thankfully-it-did temple film.

I had so much fun working with Jarica & Bret, they are both super nice and you can tell they really love each other.  It was a bit of a rainy day, but that always makes for nice lighting too.  I also really enjoyed working with Rich Legg, their photographer.  Here’s their temple film from Saturday May 2nd.
